we’re redefining the future of food systems to create a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive world.
Bridging Gaps in Food Security Through Empowering Communities
Since our founding in 2020, we’ve been on a mission to bridge the gaps in food security by empowering communities to grow fresh, local produce
We focus on innovative vertical farming solutions that tackle some of today’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, food accessibility, and the need for localised economies.
Our journey so far
The seeds of Australian Urban Growers were planted in 2014 when founder Christopher Fullon began exploring climate change mitigation strategies during his university studies. Urban farming emerged as a standout solution for its ability to reduce heat chains in cities while enhancing climate resilience and food security. Chris’ passion led him to prototype hydroponic and aquaponic systems, often building them from scratch to overcome the lack of available tools in the market.
By 2019, Steve Falkner, after a global career in resource science, settled in Brisbane and began experimenting with hydroponic systems. That same year, Chris and Steve met, finding common ground in their vision for sustainable urban farming. Together, they envisioned a world where fresh, locally-grown produce was accessible to all, leading to the formal establishment of Australian Urban Growers in 2020.
The Australian Urban Growers journey has been marked by exciting milestones that highlight our growth and impact:

What We Do
We’re more than a food-growing initiative; we’re a movement. By working with communities, businesses, schools, and governments, we provide:
Accessible, scalable vertical farming systems tailored to urban and regional needs. Programs for students, teachers, and communities to understand and act on sustainable food practices.
A holistic level of support across the entire food production process, including guidance on revenue-raising from the sale of the food grown
Partnerships and collaborations with diverse stakeholders to build resilient food ecosystems locally and globally.
Why it matters
Our work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, tackling global challenges like hunger, inequality, and climate change. Through our efforts, we help communities and organisations understand these goals and implement, measure, and report on their progress.
Urban farming is a way to build healthier, more connected communities. Whether reducing Scope 3 emissions through localised food systems or fostering generative economies in rural and regional areas, our mission is to leave a lasting legacy of sustainability and resilience.
